Invitation to Submit a Research Summary/Brief

The Editorial Board of Nursing Praxis in New Zealand will publish research summaries or ‘briefs’ in future issues for research completed within the last two years.

We are aware that nurses are completing research without publishing it, particularly for their Master’s degrees, which may be of great interest to others. The decision to publish a research brief or summary will be based on an estimate of the potential reader interest, and will not be peer-reviewed.

Researchers are invited to submit a summary of research they have completed that should not exceed 1500 words. As the material will be read by a broad cross-section of nurses, abstracts from theses are often not suitable in their original form and so require reworking before submission to Nursing Praxis.

Research Brief content must convey succinctly the essence of what was done, how and why, and an indication of the outcome. Therefore, you should include -

  • a statement of the topic and purpose of the research
  • participants and the mode of recruitment
  • what was done (method and procedure for data collection and analysis)
  • and a brief indication of the findings and their implications for nursing
  • an author submission form (download from the website)
