Abstract:

Recently I was on my way home from the hospital.  The day had been spent encouraging students to use a nursing theory in their practice.  I felt somewhat unsuccessful in my attempts.  I called into a shop to purchase the latest edition of the text (Nursing Theories:  The Base for Professional Nursing”. (George, 1985). This book summarises fifteen theories of nursing.  Each one is evaluated as being of use in the practice setting.  There are other useful theories of nursing besides these.
