Abstract:

Introduction
This study was undertaken some eighteen months ago while the author was a staff nurse in a 27 bed psychiatric unit attached to a large public hospital.  The designated mode of care delivery was team nursing.  Individual nurses within the team functioned as primary nurses, with the associate nurse usually, but not always, coming from the same team.
