Abstract
Regular assessment of post operative pain levels was carried out with a group of 22 children. The children involved were in hospital for a minimum of 24 hours post surgery and as the majority of children have day surgery, this group represents only those having major surgery. The aim was to evaluate the present practice of pain management for children post surgery. A multidisciplinary group has adopted the recommendations made in this study and other recent Australian studies, and introduced a comprehensive programme of paediatric pain management.
