Abstract:

Introduction
Having reviewed overseas studies on the use of O.S.C.E.’s in the education of health professionals, the tutors in the School of Health Studies at Carrington Polytechnic decided to trial their use in all three years of the comprehensive nursing programme.  While the teaching team of each year was responsible for the development of O.S.C.E.s appropriate for their group of students, and O.S.C.E. taskforce looked at O.S.C.E. development on a school-wide basis.  This was largely involved in gathering relevant information and ideas for distribution to individual tutors involved in the preparation of each O.S.C.E.
