To Create an Atmosphere 

Introduction
In this paper I will focus on the concept of atmosphere and the relationship it has to the nursing care of the demented elderly.  I plan to draw on my own experience as a nurse in a long term care setting and to utilise the results of a questionnaire issued to my colleagues in that same setting.  From these sources I will explore how, when, and why the atmosphere is affected and focus on the nursing contribution to a positive atmosphere and the subsequent reduction of agitation in demented elderly persons.
