Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to critically examine the current literature and review the state of knowledge about women affected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) focusing on the impact of this pandemic on women in underdeveloped countries. A MEDLINE search from 1988 – 1993 was completed and additional data was collated from associated literature.
